Consortium of Collaborative Activities for Local Area Revitalization - Launch Symposium

2016-10-14 (Fri) 12:30 - 16:40

The Consortium for Collaborative Activity Towards Regional Revitalization was started by a group of volunteers who sense a danger in the current situation of the forests of Japan, which make up 70% of the total land area of the country, and the forest industry and regions that depend on them, through a tie-up between the major forestry regions of Chizu in Tottori Prefecture and Oguni in Kumamoto Prefecture.

At this symposium, we'll speculate about the policies necessary for local area revitalization using hints from the forests that we have cultivated after inheriting them from those who came before us, while also discussing measures to be put into practice. In order to create innovation that will change the country, it is necessary for areas of forest industry, which support the forest itself, to take action against imminent problems that have transcended regions. We would also like to discuss how we will realize "local area revitalization," which is not limited to the forest industry.

On the day of this symposium, we'll receive a declaration of intent from the promoting municipalities by Mayor TERATANI Seiichiro of Chizu, Tottori, and Mayor KITAZATO Kosuke of Oguni, Kumamoto, as well as hold a discussion on the urgent state of affairs of forest management and the future potential of the region with forestry journalist AKAHORI Kusuo.

Lastly, we'll hear a lecture on the expectations of the future of local area revitalization and forestry areas from ISHIBA Shigeru, former Minister in charge of Overcoming Population Decline and Vitalizing Local Economy in Japan/Minister of State for the National Strategic Special Zones. We hope to see a wide range of attendees interested in local area revitalization. Applications will also be accepted at the door.
