43rd Kaitokudo Commemoration Association Field Trip - "A Visit to the Kyoto International Manga Museum: A Look at Osaka through Popular Culture"

2016-10-7 (Fri) 13:00 - 16:00

For this trip, we will be visiting the Kyoto International Manga Museum.
The Kyoto International Manga Museum, which houses some 300,000 pieces ranging from caricatures from the Bakumatsu period in the mid-19th century to modern works, including some famous worldwide, is the largest of its kind in Japan. Utilizing the building of a former elementary school built in the early Showa period (in the 1930s), we're sure you can find your favorite mangas, related materials, and picture-story performances.

On this trip, after viewing the "KODERA Kyuho and SAKAI Shichima Exhibit," which features manga in Osaka from the pre-war period to the 1940s and 1950s, and receiving a tour from Mr. ITOH Yu, we'll hear about how ways to enjoy manga and stories about its history. This is a great chance to get a manga primer and learn about the history of manga culture in Osaka.
