A Challenge to Service Innovation - Evolving from Intuition and Experience to Science (Entrepreneur Speaker Series)

Speaker - SHIMMURA Takeshi
Executive Vice President, Ganko Food Service Co., Ltd.

Date and Time - Tuesday, October 11, 2016 - 18:30 ~ 20:00

Venue - Meeting Room, 2F, Bldg. D, Office for University-Industry Collaboration, Osaka University

Lecture Overview
Though the service industry is an important industry that makes up over 70% of Japan's GDP, low labor productivity is a big issue. The cause of this was considered to be that planning and provision of services were done based on the intuition and experience of expert workers, but ever since the dawn of the 21st century, worldwide trends have shifted towards a more science- and engineering-oriented approach to improving productivity, with research advancing at a rapid pace. At this lecture, we'll get some information on examples of the application of this service engineering in the labor-intensive service industry.
