Osaka University Next Generation Public Course - An Invitation to Foreign Language Study over the Internet

The Multimedia Language Education Research Division of the Cybermedia Center will be holding German, English, and Japanese e-learning courses for citizens of Osaka city and Ikeda city.

Course Overview

These courses feature "dynamic educational materials" through use of the internet, so rather than being conducted in a classroom, these courses will be conducted in an environment in which you can connect to the internet, such as your very own home.

This academic year, we will be offering courses in English, German, Chinese, and Japanese.

Time and Place

October 29 ~ November 12, 2016

Anywhere with internet connection (e.g. your home)

Orientation - At orientation, your instructor will explain how to use the learning materials.

Saturday, October 29, 2016, 10:00 ~ 12:00, Cybermedia Center, Toyonaka Campus, Osaka University (Access) (number 1 on this map) (This location is for citizens of Ikeda city)

Saturday, October 29, 2016, 14:00 ~ 16:00, Osaka Municipal Lifelong Learning Center, Osaka city (This location is for citizens of Osaka city)

Completion Ceremony -

Saturday, November 12, 2016, Cybermedia Center, Toyonaka Campus, Osaka University (Access) (number 1 on this map) (The location of the completion ceremony will be the same for both citizens of Osaka city and Ikeda city.)

Note: Attendance to the orientation session and completion ceremony are optional.

Courses to be Held and Capacity

We will be holding the 7 courses listed below. For more information on each class, please take a look at the event page for each class by following the event URL below. (link in Japanese)

If the number of applicants exceeds capacity, we will decide on attendees through a lottery.

• English 1: "English Reading" - 40 individuals

• English 2: "English Pronunciation Course" - 40 individuals

• English 3: "Let's Learn English through the News (Advanced Listening)" - 40 individuals

• German: "Let's Try German 1" - 25 individuals

• German: "Let's Try German 2 (for beginners)" - 25 individuals

• Chinese: "Introduction to Chinese" - 45 individuals

• Japanese: "Everyday Japanese for Community Participation" - 45 individuals

Participation Fee

Participation in these courses in free.

Requirements

Individuals who fulfill the following 4 requirements may apply.

• Must be a citizen of Osaka city or Ikeda city

• Must have a personal computer connected to the internet at home. (Tables like the iPad or smart phones such as iPhone and Android devices can not be used.)

• Your personal computer must fulfill the following requirements:

• Windows PCs must be running Windows 7, 8, 8.1, or 10

• Google Chrome is recommended for this course; however, Internet Explorer 9, 10, and 11 may also be used. The Edge browser on Windows 10 may not be used.

• Apple PCs must must be running Mac OS X 10.7 or later and must have Google Chrome installed.

• Must be able to send and receive e-mail via the internet and perform basic operations such as access websites to view content, input information, and make selections via buttons.
