Osaka University and Knowledge Capital - "LIVE! 'I Learned Superstring Theory from my Dad': A 70-minute Lecture from Physics Genius Professor Naniwazaka"

2016-10-29 (Sat) 16:00 - 17:30

With a grant from the Japan Science and Technology Agency "Project to Support Career Choices of Female High School Students in Scientific Fields," a group of universities led by Osaka University will hold the 11th Kansai Kagaku Juku for Female Junior and Senior High School Students during the 2016-2017 academic year.  Over the course of the year, this program will hold experiments and lectures, as well as provide opportunities for students to talk directly with female researchers currently working in companies and universities, with the aim of cultivating female researchers of the future.

Knowledge Capital will be co-hosting a series of 4 lectures entitled "UMEKITA Kagaku Juku for Junior and Senior High School Students." All high school students (both male and female) are welcome to attend the lectures held in September, while female members of the general public may attend the lectures in November. We hope to see you there.

Osaka University and Knowledge Capital

What is the universe made of? Superstring theory is a physics theory that unifies all of the matter and forces in the universe. Within this lies the idea of different spacial dimensions. The "space" that everyone sees consists of three dimensions of depth, width, and height, but why is space in 3 dimensions? We'll questions common knowledge, talk about different spacial dimensions, and visit a world at the forefront of physics.

Time and Date: Saturday, September 9, 2016 - 16:00 ~ 17:30

Venue: Café Lab (1F, Knowledge Capital North Bldg., Grand Front Osaka)

Lecturer: HASHIMOTO Koji (Professor, Graduate School of Science, Osaka University)

Intended for: High school students (both male and female)

Capacity: 35 (Prior registration is required. Applicants will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.)

Attendance fee: 500 yen (includes 1 drink)

(Note: Parents/guardians may also attend. Because this lecture will take place at a café, parents/guardians must also apply prior to the event and pay the attendance fee (includes 1 drink).)

Applications will be accepted from 11:00 on October 14. Applications can be made by clicking here.

To all female high school students

At this lecture, I'll deliver a live version of the hit book "A World-Leading Researcher Teachers his High School Daughter Real Cutting-Edge Physics." Come find out what the leading researchers of the world are close to understanding, and what we don't know yet. Knowing what you don't know is actually incredible!
