Café Image - "'LISTEN,' a Silent Musical"

2016-7-9 (Sat) 19:00 - 21:00

What is "music?" What makes it "music?" "LISTEN" is a silent musical film portraying the music felt by deaf individuals who say that they can "see music," through visually creating music through sign language poetry and dancing. We've invited co-directors MAKIHARA Eri and Dakei, both deaf individuals who asked themselves the very same questions mentioned above during filming, to speak with us. What can we feel from the "music" caught on film, and what can we find? Let's discuss these topics together. (sign language interpretation available)

What is Lab Café?

A major program instituted at Art Area B1, "Lab Café" is designed and implemented by the Center for the Study of Communication-Design. Lab Café is an interactive program in which participants have wide-ranging discussions on a variety of topics. The program aims to make the station a communication space in the arts and academia by taking up various themes in philosophy, art, science and technology and providing the general public with chances to be exposed to expertise on those topics.

What is Art Area B1?

The concourse of the first basement of Naniwabashi Station was set up as Art Area B1 when the Keihan Electric Railway's Nakanoshima Line was opened on October 19, 2008. Since then, the project has aimed to make the station a center of artistic communication.
