Kaitokudo for the 21st Century Osaka University OSAKAN CAFE vol. 8 - "HATTORI Ryoichi and the Dohtonbori Jazz Age"

2016-3-20 (Sun) 13:30 - 16:00

In vol. 8 of OSAKAN CAFE, we'll focus on jazz culture that thrived in Osaka during the Taisho period (1912~1926), the "Dohtonbori Jazz Age." Attendees will enjoy a jazz talk reminiscing on the past, as well as a jazz concert played on the gramaphone. This event is a great chance to experience jazz through both word and sound. We hope to see you there!

A modern Osaka in 1923.

The first Japanese professional jazz band, "Laughing Stars," was born with the sponsorship of a wealthy merchant.

Ever since, HATTORI Ryoichi has called this "Dohtonbori Jazz," and Osaka has been the center of jazz in Japan.

This talk and SP record concert will breathe new life into the memories of yesteryear.
