93rd Nakazaki Kita Tenma Science Café - "How is the price of medicine determined? Discussing the issue of rising medical costs"

2016-2-14 (Sun) 14:00 - 16:00

We will learn how the prices of medical products are determined and zero in on the problem of rising medical costs.

Development of new drugs and state-of-the-art medical technology is steadily advancing, but this advancement raises the price of medical costs, creating a gap in who can and can't get access to treatment. We will discuss this issue as we take a look at an actual example of a new drug from its development all the way up to the determination of its market value.
