Tanka Poetry Creativity Workshop "Utakai" First Night

The Osaka University Cross-Boundary Innovation Program will be holding a workshop to cultivate creativity through composing tanka poetry, also known as an utakai. After listening to a lecture from our guest lecturers, participants will compose and critique their own tanka poems. Our guests for these lectures are HOMURA Hiroshi and OKAI Takashi, two of Japan's most prized tanka poets. This special tanka poetry workshop is brought to you by the Osaka University Cross-Boundary Innovation Program, and will be held for two consecutive nights. You do not need any prior knowledge to attend. Let's get creative through poetry with some of the best poets in the world!

Our guest for the first night will be Mr. HOMURA Hiroshi.

Guest Profile:

HOMURA Hiroshi hails from Hokkaido, where he was born in 1962. His poetry allowed him to be accepted into the Nikkei Tanka Poetry Circle. Mr. Homura published his first poetry collection, "Syndicate," in 1990. He was awarded the 19th Ito Sei Prize in 2008 for his "Tanka no yujin,"and he has also written several picture books as well as translations for Lewis Carroll.
