Osaka University Symposium 2015 - The Network of a Developing Society: Towards the Co-Creation of Creative Island Nakanoshima

2015-12-20 (Sun) 13:30 - 18:00

As we approach 70 years since WWII, what is our past and present, and what does our future hold? At this symposium, we'll discuss the co-creation of a maturing society and the environment with a network enabling the interaction amongst the knowledge of universities, the innovation of businesses, and the pioneering of arts and culture.

Program

Part 1: Keynote Lecture

Logistic Urban Culture - MORIMURA Yasumasa (Artist)

From the newly developed "cities," to the "towns" of old, to the "communities" that create an air of spontaneous generation, the society that we live in is diverse. So just what makes an interesting and attractive "community" to MORIMURA Yasumasa, an Osaka native with a unique way of thinking who has been active around the world through the personal practice of art? We'll hear about Morimura-stye Urban Culture, which moves people's intellect and emotions.

Part 2: Symposium

The Network of Culture and Economics - The Creative Island Nakanoshima

Culture and economics, as inseparable factors which provide energy to society, will continue to mature people and communities while evolving as mutual catalysts. Representatives from organizations with a connection to Nakanoshima, with its multi-layered historical background and various urban developments in recent years, will gather to take a close look at the past and present of culture, media, and transit, as well as discuss the possibility of the co-creation of a regional society network and future.
