2015 Winter Extension Course for HS Students -- Molecular Biology Hands-on Course, "Giant Impact"

2015-12-27 (Sun) - 2015-12-29 (Tue)

This hands-on course is the oldest High School & University Joint Education Seminar in Japan. It started 20 years ago as a comprehensive education system for high school students as well as undergraduate and graduate students.

In this three-day course, HS students will enjoy experiments and discussion while performing genetic engineering experiments and learning the basics of science. This is the only scientific career education in Japan, aiming to nurture zest for living in students. Through this course, we will pursue the essence of education, "What should we do in order to turn learning into zest for living?"

The major players in this course are the student tutors, a group of top-level students in Japan. High school students will keep their thoughts flowing enthusiastically until the last moment of this course with graduate students full of zest for living. HS students may wonder "Why did graduate students continue to learn and struggle with thinking rather than just escape from their difficulties? " They will learn by exchanging zest for living with each other.

From Sunday, December 27 through Tuesday, December 29, 2015, the Department of Biological Sciences of the Graduate School of Science is holding a "Molecular Biology Seminar for HS Students -- Giant Impact" at School of Science Main building on the Toyonaka campus. During the three-day course in the summer or winter holidays, HS students will be enchanted by bioscience research and enjoy experiments and discussion through genetic engineering experiments with colon bacillus and examinations using an electronic microscope.

This course is scientific career education to turn learning into zest for living by providing students with the basics of science workers, problem-discovering ability and problem-solving ability as well as by making them think about the purpose of learning.
