Special Talk by Nobuaki Date and Chichi Matsumura

2015-11-7 (Sat) 18:00 - 19:30

A new type of intellectual adventure at the University Museum...

Making use of the Osaka University Ishibashi Residence, which had been closed and unoccupied, under the theme of the memory of the university and community, The Museum of Osaka University carried out the Handai Ishibashi Residence Farewell Project from the summer through the autumn of 2014.

Taking over this project, ”The Museum of Osaka University Special Exhibition #8 -- Machikaneyama Shonen Project” was held this year. Nobuaki DATE, an artist advocating the Ukulele Plan, which makes ukuleles using materials from buildings to be demolished and gives them to the building owner, played a major role in the above-mentioned project. He spent his early life in Building #3 of the Ishibashi Residence and was a model in the special exhibition "Machikaneyama Shonen Project." Currently he is proceeding with his plan for making a ukulele with building materials from his old home in Building #3.

In Part 1 of this event, we will look back at the projects from the "Farewell Project" to the "Machikaneyama Shonen Project." In Part 2, a ukulele which Mr. Date made using building materials from his old home will be introduced. He will also talk with Chichi MATSUMURA, a musician with whom Mr. Date discussed the Ukulele Plan.

What sound does the ukulele generate? What story does it tell? Please look forward to this special talk, a kind of final chapter to this project, which lasted for over 2 years.

Attendance for this event is free.
