2015-16 Science Cafés at Machikaneyama

How about enjoying a "Science Café" at the Museum of Osaka University on a Saturday afternoon? Science Cafés provide students with a platform where they can directly discuss science topics with researchers. Science Café were started in the hope that they would narrow the gap between specialists and the public and previous cafés have proved to be very popular. We hope many of you will attend these events. Why not join one of these Science Cafés?

Dates and Times

Saturdays, 14:00~15:30 (total of 8 sessions)


November 7 - "The World of Buddha Statues of the Asuka Period" (for elementary school students and up)

November 21 - "Interactive Mediation Techniques" (for high school students and up)

December 5 - "Movement and Form Created by Instability" (for junior high school students and up)


January 30 - "See the Unseen: Let's Make Microscopes with Paper" (for junior high school students and up)

February 6 - "Deciphering Chinese Buddhist Paintings: Principles and Aspects of Buddhist Paintings of the Southern Song" (for junior high school students and up)

February 13 - "What's Pseudo-Science?" (for high school students and up)

March 12 - "Life Science Revealed at the Molecular Level" (for junior high school students and up)

March 19 - "Reading Kuukai's 'Fushinjo'" (for high school students and up)

Attendance Fees:

Attending these cafés is free.

We ask that you inform the staff at Museum Café SAKA (坂) about your participation in "Science Café" and purchase a drink of your choice before attending.

How to Apply

Please apply online or by sending a postcard with a reply postcard attached. If applicants exceed the quota for this event, attendees will be chose by lottery. Successful applicants will be informed by email or postcard.

The application period for these cafés starts from two months before and ends one month before each café. Please view the flyer for the details of each café. Any applications accepted outside of the application period will not be valid.

Please include the title of one (1) café, your address, name, telephone number and age in a postcard and send it to the address below. If applying as a family, please make sure to write the names and ages of all members attending the café.
