Symposium: Childbirth Literacy Seminar Series "Childbirth and Tomorrow's Perspective"

This symposium aims to deepen participants' understanding of childbirth and increase their childbirth literacy in order to help them to design their personal development. It will give an opportunity to think about conception and birth and deepen the understanding of those expecting their child(ren).

Program

10:30 ~ 12:00 -- Outreach Workshop 1

"Nutrition and Things Necessary for Keeping a Healthy Body" (Advance registration is necessary. Seating is granted on a first-come, first-served basis.)

Pregnant women and university students will discuss dietary habits in a mixed group and obtain self-management skills of diet. SUZUKI Yumiko from Kanoya Athlete Restaurant, a former Olympic athlete, will speak about the importance of diet and its effects to the body and introduce healthy and easy recipes for delicious dishes.

12:00~13:00 -- Lunch (Lunch will not be provided, so please bring your own lunch or use a restaurant on campus.)

13:00~14:30 -- Lecture

"Childbirth and Life Design" (Registration starts at 12:45)

This seminar will provide participants with an opportunity to know what they should know when thinking about personal development of their lives. That includes:

  • Obstetric and gynecologic information one needs to know according to changes with age from early adolescence to old age, including changes in hormones such as menstruation and menopause and information about gynecological diseases
  • Risks associated with advanced maternal and/or paternal age (including aging eggs and infertility)
  • The serious situation of extremely thin Japanese women and challenges of babies with a low birth weight
  • Lecture 1: “Truth and Lies about Conception and Childbirth,” OHHASHI Kazutomo, Professor, Division of Health Sciences, Graduate School of Medicine, Osaka University
  • Lecture 2: "Nutritional Status and Challenges of Woman in the Reproductive Age Group – Let’s Improve Your Eating Habits!" WATANABE Hiroko, Professor, Division of Health Sciences, Graduate School of Medicine, Osaka University
  • Lecture 3: "Considering Late Conception and Birth," ITO Yukari, Associate Professor, Center for International Education and Exchange, Osaka University

14:45~15:45 -- Outreach Workshop 2

"Proactively Designing Your Personal Development" (Registration starts at 14:30)

In this workshop, participants will dig deeply into their idea and sense of value to review their life values. They will also come up with a new vision for bringing harmony to 4 areas: themselves, their work, their community, and their home.
