English Thesis Writing Seminar for OU Young Researchers

If you are in the following situation, please don't hesitate to join us!

  • You want to write a thesis in English and contribute it to an international academic journal.
  • You know mistakes that Japanese people tend to make.
  • You want to improve your writing skills, or know the basics of writing theses in English.
  • You want to know why your theses were modified by proofreaders, although your theses were grammatically correct.
  • Putting aside the question of grammar, you've never thought of the appropriate length of a sentence and paragraph structure, etc.

Lecturer: ONO Yoshimasa, Doctor of Science, Visiting Chief Researcher, RIKEN Center for Emergent Matter Science
Starting from 1982, Dr. ONO was involved in education of science and engineering English at Hitachi Institute of Technology, Hitachi Research Laboratory, The University of Tokyo Graduate School of Engineering, RIKEN, and Japan Science and Technology Agency.
He has conducted intensive courses for writing English theses at Hokkaido University Graduate School of Engineering and The University of Tokyo Graduate School of Science since 2003. He also published specialized books such as How to Effectively Write Science Papers in English. Based on his long-term experience in correcting and teaching English academic theses, he will give tips for effectively writing English theses to Japanese researchers.
