Practical Training in Protein Science for High School Students: Scientific Career Education Using Firefly Enzymes

2015-10-18 (Sun) 09:00 - 19:00

On Sunday, October 18, 2015, in the main building of the School of Science, Toyonaka Campus, the Department of Biological Science of the Graduate School of Science will be holding a seminar entitled "Practical Training in Protein Science for High School Students: Scientific Career Education Using Hotalight." Using  "firefly luciferase" (also known as Hotalight), luminescent enzymes developed through recombinant DNA technology, participants will carry out experiments, make observations and expression, think, discover problems, establish hypotheses, plot verification experiments, perform analytical evaluation of predicted results, create reports, participate in a workshop, and even engage in a Q&A battle (mini academic conference) over the course of one day, and enjoy science and thinking through challenging the unknown. In addition, by experiencing the reality of the scientific world, this seminar will give high school students an opportunity to think about their own aptitude for science, and through learning how products are developed through recombinant DNA technology and in what way this can contribute to the real world, this seminar will also serve as "scientific career education" in which students lean about the relationship between the real world and science technology.

Registration prior to this seminar is required. For more information, please access the URL below.
