Osaka University & Osaka Gas: Academic Cooking, Vol. 58 -- Welcome to the Protein Wonderland!

2015-5-2 (Sat) 10:30 - 17:00

Kaitokudo for the 21st Century and Osaka Gas have jointly been holding a series of unique lectures on certain foods followed by the cooking and eating that food. Joining us for "volume" 58 of this series of learning through cooking is Professor KURISU Genji of the Institute for Protein Research. Please join us!

This year, we'll hold our popular annual summer lecture aimed at elementary school students and their parents/guardians during Golden Week.

This time, however, the morning session will be open to those 15 years of age or older. For those who could not attend Professor KURISU's Academic Cooking lecture prior to this, now is your chance!

The afternoon session will be held as usual, with only elementary school students years 4~6 and their parents/guardians allowed to attend.

• Vol. 58 -- Welcome to the Protein Wonderland!

When you hear the word "protein," what pops into your mind? For most people, protein in its nutrient form, as found in meat and eggs, will be a common response. However, that's not all there is to proteins. From our blood to our saliva, hormones to antibodies and enzymes, protein has a lot to do with what makes our bodies move. In fact, our bodies are made up of mostly proteins and water! Proteins are even a key component to plant pigments and photosynthesis. Let's enjoy eating some delicious proteins while learning about the shape and function of the familiar yet mysterious "protein."
