Handai-Asahi Nakanoshima Juku: The Constitution of Japan -- Have You Ever Really Read It?

2015-5-16 (Sat) 10:30 - 12:00

The Handai-Asahi Nakanoshima Juku offers courses produced and sponsored by Osaka University and the Asahi Culture Center. The Handai-Asahi Nakanoshima Juku was established at the time [Osaka University's] Nakanoshima Center was built in 2004.

These courses share results of research conducted at Osaka University with the general public in an easy-to-understand format. In these lectures, leading lecturers give presentations on topics in culture, art, history, science, technology, health care, as well as seasonal and current topics.

Date and Time: Saturday, May 16, 2015 -- 10:30~12:00

Venue: Osaka University Nakanoshima Center

Fee: ¥1,620

Lecturer: TANIGUCHI Mayumi (Osaka University Adjunct Instructor and Associate Professor at Osaka International University)

The Japanese Constitution was enacted nearly 70 years ago, but the majority of people have never even read it. You've memorized the preamble. You know Article 9. But what about the other Articles? These days, there's plenty of controversy over amending the constitution, but when it comes to whether or not we should change something we don't fully understand, it's hard to imagine an agreement ever being reached. Before we can amend or support the constitution, we must fully understand it. Let's take a closer look together. We'll decipher the constitution (in Osaka dialect!) in a lecture based on that of a 4-time "Best Teacher Award" winner chosen by Osaka University students.

To apply, go to the Asahi Culture Center website.
