Workshop for Business Solutions Through Design Thinking -- Making Osaka the Number One Tourist City Through City Design

2015-3-18 (Wed) 13:00 - 18:00

In this lecture, we'll learn about the process involved with platform type product design used to fulfill the latent wants and needs of many users through looking at the city, a product with a range of functions and stakeholders.

We'll then address a city design to make people unconsciously want to visit by creating a coherent city concept from economic, consumption, culture and exchange, living climate, and transportation viewpoints under the theme "Making Osaka the Number One Tourist City Through City Design." We'll also learn about composite business solutions methods that use the design thinking process in order to solve those problems facing the process necessary for realizing this city design.

Workshop Aims

In today's society, the demand is high for problem-solving personnel. However, there are many types of "problem-solving." While there are specific needs and challenges that are quite visible and obvious in the consciousness of the people, there are some latent wants and needs that many don't realize they needed in the first place. In the case of the former, continuous innovation through technological advances can solve many of those problems, and the aim is to eliminate losses while doing so. On the other hand, in the case of the latter, disruptive innovation through deep insight is used to draw out these latent wants and needs, and transform that into a revolutionary service which makes people experience and realize these needs for the first time, with the goal being creating a positive from zero.
At this workshop, we'll acquire a higher level of business solution prowess through utilizing the design process and placing a particular emphasis on the creation process used not only for fulfilling the latent wants and needs of the latter, but also in unearthing them.
