Spring School for High School and Vocational High School Students 2015: Science Technology Research for the Future

2015-3-5 (Thu) 10:00 - 15:40

This year, we will once again hold the spring school geared towards high school students and students of specialized vocational high schools: Spring School 2015! Spring School is a "super fun" school held by the Graduate School of Engineering Cross Departmental Research Group, the Non-Linear Engineering Education and Research Center for students who wish to enter a science-related field.

This, in addition to lectures on the latest in the world's most advanced research, we also plan to set aside time for students to converse freely with Osaka University students, a very popular yearly segment. This provides students valuable time to ask questions about life at OU.

We will also plan on holding laboratory tours and mini experiments, another very popular yearly segment, so students can get just a taste of graduate school research.

Please join us!

Program Overview

10:00 ‐ 10:30   Opening: Greeings, Engineering Department Introductions

10:30 - 12:00   Mini Lecture: "Experience Graduate School Research! An Introduction to the World's Latest Research"

"Soliton, the Mysterious Wave"

Associate Professor MARUTA Akihiro, Department of Electronic Information and Engineering, School of Engineering, Osaka University

12:00‐13:30   University Life Q&A, social lunch with OU Staff, Students, and Graduate Students

If you've got any questions about life at OU, this is your chance! We'll hold a social event so you can ask anything that's on your mind to the students and staff of the School of Engineering here at Osaka University. After lunch, there will also be a poster exhibition by the graduate students, so please have a look at some of the world's latest research performed here at OU, and how it could affect the world we live in.

Departments expected to attend: School of Engineering (Department of Electronic Information and Engineering; Department of Mechanical, Materials, and Manufacturing Science)

13:40‐15:30   Interactive Experiment Corner, Laboratory Tours and Mini Lab Work
For this segment, we'll break into small groups and have a look at the world's latest research equipment, while also joining in on some interactive mini lab work to see just a part of the activities performed by students and graduate students in an OU lab.

Departments expected to attend: School of Engineering (Department of Electronic Information and Engineering; Department of Mechanical, Materials, and Manufacturing Science)
