Lecturer: Assistant Professor KATO-SHIMIZU Mayuko (Graduate School of Human Sciences, Osaka University)

When we see someone in trouble, we help them; when there's someone looking sad, we comfort them. From an early developmental state, we can see these types of good deeds not only to those closest to us, but even to those we've only just met. So why, then, are we capable of such auspicious behavior? We'll introduce and examine the development of this generous behavior from a psychological perspective, as well as discuss just how important the phrase "Charity is a good investment," is to human society.
