2015-1-17 (Sat) - 2015-2-7 (Sat)

The Handai-Asahi Nakanoshima Juku offers courses produced and sponsored by Osaka University and Asahi Culture Center. The Handai-Asahi Nakanoshima Juku was established at the time the Nakanoshima Center was built in 2004.

These courses share results of research conducted at Osaka University with the general public in an easy-to-understand format. In these lectures, leading lecturers give presentations on topics in culture, art, history, science, technology, health care, as well as seasonal and current topics.

Tuition fee: ¥3,240

Lecturer: TAKASHIMA Kouzi, Guest Professor, Center for the Study of Communication Design

It's a big mistake to think that our history progresses and develops in one direction only. Speaking of the history of women, it looks this way: "compared with the present, before WWII women's position was low" and, therefore, "in the Meiji and Taisho eras, women were even more oppressed," and, thus, "in the Edo era, discrimination against women was rampant."

In this Handai-Asahi Nakanoshima course, let's bend our ears to the voices of women in the Edo era, making use of an Edo era letter of divorce, "Mikudarihan," and a book of precepts Women's University as texts to get close to them.
