Osaka University & Osaka Gas: Academic Cooking, Vol. 55 -- "Warming body and heart with surprisingly commonplace traditional Chinese medicines"

2015-1-22 (Thu) 6:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

Kaitokudo for the 21st Century and Osaka Gas have jointly been holding a series of unique lectures on certain foods followed by the cooking and eating that food. The 55th "volume" of Academic Cooking will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2015. HAGIHARA Keisuke, Associate Professor, Graduate School of Medicine, Osaka University, will give the lecture. This session is sure to be interesting so don't miss it!

Did you know that traditional Chinese medicines have long been a part of the Osaka scene? Since the era of 8th Shogun Yoshimune TOKUGAWA, Osaka has been viewed as city of medicines, with the Doshou-machi district being a prime area. The deep relationship between Osaka and the legendary doctor OGATA Koan and Tekijuku will be elucidated.

You might think that Chinese traditional medicines are made with unusual and expensive ingredients, but familiar and commonplace things such as ginger, jujube, and tangerine skin are used. This lecture will explain how, in this season when body and heart get cold, both can be warmed with traditional Chinese medicine.
