Labo Café / Alternative Café -- evacuation maps as communication tools

An "Alternative Café" is a public meeting in which we, primarily from the point of view of culture, take a new look at our lives in order to think about their meaning and shape. In this café, HATORI Tatsuya, Nikken Sekkei Ltd., will talk about using the published "escape maps" as tools in the development of evacuation routes and planning of urban development for sea-side districts. Based on his talk, this cafe will also discuss measures for disaster prevention, essential to our lives, and possibilities of towns in the future.

What is Lab Café?

A major program instituted at Art Area B1 is the "Lab Café," designed and implemented by the Center for the Study of Communication-Design. The Lab Café is an interactive program in which participants have wide-ranging discussions on a variety of topics. The program aims to make the station a communication space in the arts and academia by taking up various themes in philosophy, art, science and technology and providing the general public with chances to be exposed to expertise on those topics.

What is Art Area B1?

The concourse on the 1st basement of the Naniwabashi Station was set up as the Art Area B1 at the time of opening of the Keihan Electric Railway's Nakanoshima Line on October 19, 2008. Starting then, the project to make the station a center of artistic communication commenced.
