Extension Course for HS students -- "Learning about the Functions of Protein" Science education using "Hota-light"

2014-11-16 (Sun) 9:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.

The Department of Biological Sciences, Graduate School of Science, Osaka University, and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science will jointly hold a hands-on course, "Extension Course for HS students -- Learning about the Functions of Proteins" at the Graduate School of Science on Sunday, November 16, 2014.

Although experiments in this course using the "Hota-light" [a light that produces light through the process used by fireflies] are easy to do, they will give high school students a chance to experience the allure and fun of experimentation and research as well as a chance to consider a career in science. By means of luciferase, a luminescent enzyme developed by genetic recombination, students will take part in a full-day course containing experiments, observation, considerations, discovering problems, hypothesis formulation, drafting verification experiment plans, prediction of results, analyzing the evaluation, additional experimentation, research presentation, discussion, and answering questions.
How about joining us to enjoy finding and solving issues through practical training of scientific thinking? Let's have a nice time of experiments, thinking, and discussions!
There is no charge for attending
Registration in advance is required.
