Working together, Osaka University and Osaka City endeavor to provide citizens with small lectures in an "at home" atmosphere. Making use of its scholarship in various fields, Osaka University promotes the sharing of its learning with citizens, thereby contributing to the revitalization of local communities. The themes for the coming 2 series of lectures are "Various aspects of society" and "Artifacts, past and present." There is no charge for attending, so please feel free to come!

This lecture, "Considerations regarding a participatory environment for future community development" is the first in the "Various aspects of society" series.

Lecturer: FUKUDA Tomohiro, Associate Professor, Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka University

Overview of content: As society matures, cities and their architecture and the ways these are used changes. Members of the public and local residents participate in renovation from the planning stage. The types of people and organizations taking part in the initial planning are multiple and varied. While providing such people with a broad understanding of the plans being made, it is necessary to get them as fans, providing ideas, emotional support, and broad consensus regarding the likely final designs.

In reference to the above, this lecture will introduce you to today's participatory environment in community development by including the use of visual materials. Moreover, as an NPO member participating in Osaka community development, the lecturer will present a "Front Line Report" on events like "The Sunrise Café," "Osakatabi Glasses," "Kita-hama Terrace," and others.
