Kaitokudo for the 21st Century i-spot LECTURE -- Lecture by NAKAKUBO Tatsuo: "Seeing the era in the shape"

2014-7-25 (Fri) 2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Working together, Osaka University and Osaka City endeavor to provide citizens with small lectures in an "at home" atmosphere. Making use of its scholarship in various fields, Osaka University promotes the sharing of its learning with citizens, thereby contributing to the revitalization of local communities. The themes for these 2 i-spot lecture series are "Various aspects of society" and "Artifacts, past and present." There is no charge for attending, so please feel free to come!

This first "Artifacts, past and present" lecture is entitled "Seeing the era in the shape"

Lecturer: NAKAKUBO Tatsuo, Assistant Professor, Archaeological Cultural Assets Office

Overview of content: Since long ago, people have lived and made all sorts of implements. It so happens that shapes and designs of these implements change along with changes of the era. So then, why and how is it that these changes in shape take place? This is where the mystery and fascination of things that are made can be found.

In this workshop, participants will be able to handle actual shards of ancient earthenware excavated by Osaka University and examine them carefully. And then, we'll have fun learning about how changes in the way things are made happen by playing an illustration version of Chinese Whispers [game] and an arrange-the-earthenware-in-order game.
