2nd Lecture to Commemorate the 20th Anniversary of OSSIP's Founding

2013-12-17 (Tue) 10:30 - 1:00 p.m.

Osaka University's Osaka School of International Public Policy (OSIPP), which has involved itself in research, education, and personnel development regarding the making, implementation, and assessment of public policies and challenges to such policies in a variety of fields from an international viewpoint, celebrates its 20th anniversary in June 2014. As a way for celebrating this 20th anniversary, OSIPP will be conducting commemorative events from December 2013 through March 2015.
This second commemorative lecture is being held on Tuesday, December 17. YABUNAKA Mitoji, former Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, currently Specially Appointed Professor at OSIPP's Inamori Foundation Endowed Chair, will speak about Japanese diplomacy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In an increasingly-globalized world, the unipolar status of the U.S. is in decline while developing nations such as China have emerged as the world situation around Japan changes precipitously. Unlike in the past, military or economic power are no longer decisive factors in defining power relationships. Furthermore, for Japan, it's time to play a new role in sharing cultural information, addressing environmental protection, and mediating conflicts. Professor Yabunaka will speak about what role Japan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs should play and what kind of people Japan and the world require.
