Overview of lecture

Following the civil war in Yugoslavia, Serbia enjoyed economic revitalization and political stability for a time. However, such didn't continue for long and today the citizens of Serbia are buffeted by mounting dissatisfaction and complaints. On the one side is the desire to reflect upon and criticize the country's history and nationalism, while on the other side there is dissatisfaction over the breakdown of the nation and the sense of community. Serbians find themselves torn between the contradictions in these two. In the midst of such an environment, various conspiracy theories regarding international society have become topics of conversation.

This seminar will take a look at the rhetoric of these conspiracy theories, investigating why such rhetoric should be so wide-spread, and what it says in the face of a lack of rational political discourse.
