No. 1: Osaka & Kyoto Open Cultural Lectures for the second half of 2013 ~ 2014 -- "Chained Dramas and Osaka"

Open lectures under the joint sponsorship of the Graduate School of Letters and Kaitokudo for the 21st Century of Osaka University together with the Ritsumeika University Osaka Office and the School of Letters, Ritsumeikan University have been scheduled. The first lecture in the 8-part series is being held on Monday, September 30. The themes of these lectures center on Osaka and Kyoto and aspects shared in their history and culture.

Shared theme for Open Cultural Lectures for the second half of 2013 ~ 2014 (8 classes): "The Art of Osaka & Kyoto -- Old Kimonos and New Kimonos"

Osaka and Kyoto have both created and developed tangible and intangible works of art and cultural assets. Such things have, throughout the passage of many years, created a fresh significance and made a deep impression on people. In these lectures, we will focus on the artwork and cultural assets of Kyoto and Osaka and, making use of the latest technology, think about the modern significance of these things.

Lecture #1: "Chained Dramas and Osaka"

Lecturer: YOKOTA Hiroshi, Assistant Professor, The Museum of Osaka University

Brief Summary: In the Taisho Era, an art form that combined a moving picture and a theater production, "Chained Dramas," was developed in Osaka and spread nationwide. We'll consider what kind of art these "Chained Dramas" were, movies which made use of recently developed optical devices and theater productions which had existed prior to moving pictures, testing the existing environment.

Venue: Osaka Umeda Campus, Ritsumeikan University (5th Floor, Osaka Fukoku Life Insurance Bldg., 2-4 Matsubara-cho, Kita-ku, Osaka)

Lesson fee: 1 lesson -- ¥1500 (Single payment for 7 or more lessons: ¥10,000)
Maximum enrollment: 100
Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. If/When 100 applications have been received, applications will be immediately terminated. You are advised to apply early.

2. After the receipt of your application, you will be issued with written confirmation of your acceptance and a form for making payment at a post office. Please transfer the appropriate amount at a post office.
