Taking a look at the National Consciousness in a country of immigrants -- The case of Qatar in the Middle East

2012-12-23 (Sun) 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

In the Persian Gulf country of Qatar, a mere 12% of the population are citizens of Qatar. Among the other Gulf states and their populations of immigrant foreign workers from non-oil-producing countries of South and Southeast Asia, Qatar's population of immigrant foreign laborers is the highest. With this great influx of foreign immigrant laborers, making possible the rapid economic development of the Gulf countries, what sort of racial or national consciousness do the citizens themselves feel now that they are the minority and how do the citizens regard the immigrant foreign laborers seeing as they are the population majority?

This seminar will take a look at these matters.
