Lab Cafe: Theater Cafe -- Collaboration between May Theater and Osaka University

Some Osaka University students and citizens in Suita city have been involving in producing amateur theater since 2011. Individuals who pass the auditions perform dramas. Rengyou of the Gekidan Eisei, a drama group at Osaka University, is directing a new drama written by Goma-no-hae of the Knit Cap Theater group. The drama will be performed at the May Theater in February 2013.

In this café, the director and drama performers will introduce amateur stage performances that the May Theater has been involved in and their practice for their upcoming performance. A text reading workshop will also be held in this café.

What is Art Area B1?

The concourse on the 1st basement of the Naniwabashi Station was set up as the Art Area B1 at the time of opening of the Keihan Electric Railway's Nakanoshima Line on October 19, 2008. Starting then, the project to make the station a center of artistic communication commenced.

What is Lab Café?

A major program instituted at Art Area B1 is the "Lab Café," designed and implemented by the Center for the Study of Communication-Design. The Lab Café is an interactive program in which participants have wide-ranging discussions on a variety of topics. The program aims to make the station a communication space in the arts and academia by taking up various themes in philosophy, art, science and technology and providing the general public with chances to be exposed to expertise on those topics.
