Symposium: Retrospect on the past 3 years of the Lay-judge System and Court cases requiring an Interpreter

On Saturday, December 8, the Global Collaboration Center will hold a symposium regarding the lay-judge system and court cases requiring an interpreter.

Three years have passed since the lay-judge system was introduced in May 2009; therefore, this symposium will be a forum for court interpreters to gather and share information for improving the lay-judge system.

Common citizens are also welcome. This symposium hopes to improve general understanding regarding the role of court interpreters.

Program

Part 1: Court cases requiring an interpreter and court interpreters in the lay-judge system

Part 2: Summary of interview surveys for court interpreters who served in lay-judge cases

Part 3: Problems presented by court interpreters

Part 4: Comments from legal professionals, questions and answers, and summary

Send by email or fax (1) your name with furigana, (2) the name of your organization or occupation, (3) your telephone number and email address, and (4)  whether you will participate in the after-symposium party or not to the address below by Wednesday, November 28. Entitle your email "Application for 12/8 Symposium."

The after-symposium party will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in a restaurant in the museum.

Please understand if the number of applicants exceeds 50, seats will not be available for all.

There is no charge for attending this symposium. The admission fee for the museum is not necessary.
