Participants being sought for the 7th Spring Machikane-yama Nature Walk

2012-4-15 (Sun) - 2012-4-21 (Sat)

Machikane-yama, adjacent the Toyonaka campus, is usually not open to the public so its sylvan nature still remains quite untouched. We are indeed fortunate to be able to observe plants in this luxuriant forest located in an urban area. Interested persons, both those affiliated and those not affiliated with Osaka University, are welcome to attend. This is a popular annual event so don't miss it!

Dates: Sunday, April 15 and Saturday, April 21 (Registration begins from 1:00 p.m.)

Time: Both walks are scheduled from 1:30 ~ 3:30 p.m.

Please note that the walks are limited to a maximum of 20 -- first-come, first served. Registration ends when 20 participants have registered.

Assembly point for the walks: Gallery, Kaitokudo for the 21st Century, 1st Floor, Osaka University Hall

Lecturer: KURIHARA Sachiko, editor of the book Flowers on the Campus

You are strongly encouraged to wear long pants, a long-sleeved shirt, a hat, and shoes that are easy to walk in. Participants are also encouraged to put on insect repellent before the walk.

1:30 -- "Nature Walk on Machikane-yama"

Participants will walk through Machikane-yama. Ms. Kurihara will explain about various plants as the group walks. You'll be sure to find yourself refreshed after the walk and being bathed in the fresh forest air.

3:00 -- Discussion in the Studio, Kaitokudo for the 21st Century

3:30 -- End of program

In case of rain, Flowers on the Campus will be discussed in the Studio of Kaitokudo for the 21st Century in Osaka University Hall. Participants will see slides of plants found on the three campuses --Toyonaka, Suita, and Minoh-- and learn tips on ways to enjoy nature and plants.
