4th Osaka University Joint Research Course Symposium

2011-12-12 (Mon) 1:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

The Graduate School of Engineering will hold the 4th Osaka University Joint Research Course Symposium on Monday, December 12.

In order to respond to demands of the present age -- solutions to social issues and innovations leading to increased competitiveness -- greater university-industry-government efficiency in collaboration is being sought.
Osaka University established Joint Research Courses in 2006. In these courses, researchers at companies are sent to Osaka University to give lectures on a budget of about 30 million yen per company. With support from industry, Osaka University has promoted joint research projects and this year, the number of courses has increased to 28 and the total annual budget has reached about 800 million yen.
The Collaborative Research Center, a stronger system for inviting company research organizations to the university, was introduced in 2011. The university provides lab space in units of 1000 square meters that businesses can lease. Three labs already have been established. These approaches are now spreading to other universities.
In this symposium, the background for the establishment of Joint Research Courses and the Collaborative Research Center, their management methods and new achievements will be introduced so as to give businesses and universities food for thought.
Discussions will be held with people from the Joint Research Division that started at Kyushu University this year in comparing the systems of Osaka University and Kyushu University.
Partition fee: There is no charge for attending this symposium but 2,800 yen will be collected from participants in an after-symposium party.
