8th General Education Forum: "Visible FD and Perspicuous Syllabuses"

2011-11-18 (Fri) 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Overview

Four years have passed since "faculty development" (FD) became mandatory. However, despite this emphasis on FD, questionnaires in classes, and training for new academic staff, the will to make actual changes seems to have been lacking. "Nothing has changed." Among students the judgement on FD is very harsh.

The whole purpose of FD to benefit the students. It simply makes no sense to fail to listen to students in creation of class content.

The lecturer for this forum, Professor Oki of Ritsumeikan University, will talk about how each university must clarify how they view the diploma policy (DP) for each of the courses in their schools, how they view activities for invigorating the daily educational activities. Moreover, how they view the policy for grading academic achievement, clarifying for students the target which they must aim to attain for even in the most ordinary syllabus.
