Lectures Commemorating UNESCO International Mother Language Day

In support of the purpose of the UNESCO International Mother Language Day on February 21, the Research Institute for World Languages will hold academic lectures on Saturday, February 19. The guests for these lectures are Professor Jim Cummins of the University of Toronto, famous for bilingual education and heritage language education, and Professor Emeritus NAKAJIMA Kazuko  of the University of Toronto, a leading person in the same fields of education in both Japan and Canada.

Lectures:

  • "Encounter with Professor Cummins -- Minority Language Education in Japan and the Importance of Mother Tongue," NAKAJIMA Kazuko, Professor emeritus, University of Toronto
  • "Languages Crossing the Border -- What Teachers can do and What the Government must do for Children in Multiple Language Environments," Jim Cummins, Professor, Graduate School, University of Toronto

This is an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to listen to presentations by these "dream" speakers. Don't miss it!

Following their lectures, a party will be held. A party fee will be collected from those who attend.
