What we can learn from the improved Health Insurance System in the UK

-- reports based on fact-finding visits to the UK --

In the UK, medical costs have been covered by taxes since the end of WWII and all people can receive free medical care. However, the medical care system which the government controls and its public services offered has reached a plateau.

Since the 1980s, both Conservative and Labor parties established the Internal Market and introduced the New Public Management in order to revitalize the National Health Service (NHS). The organizations in charge of public health in the UK in recent years are Primary Care Trust (PCT) and Health Progection Agency (HPA).

In this seminar, persons who visited the UK in October last year and observed the situation for solving health care problems in London, Leeds, and Bradford will present reports. It is hoped that the seminar will be a place where attendees and the persons making the reports can discuss and learn from each other.
