"Saturday Lunch at Handai" for High School Students

2009-11-7 (Sat) 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

"Saturday Lunch at Handai" is a program that's designed to give high school students a feel for what it's REALLY like to be a Handai [Osaka University] student.

"Saturday Lunch at Handai" is one of two programs designed for the purpose of introducing Handai to high school students (the other program being the "Open Campus," explanatory sessions). However, "Saturday Lunch" is unique in that it is run by Handai students! In other words, "Saturday Lunch" is where high school students can get an in-depth genuine glimpse of Handai student life, and come away really feeling what it might be like.

If you're interested in Osaka University, or you're wondering what Handai might be like, then this is the event for you! If you have even a little interest, please take a look at the Saturday Lunch home pages.

We look forward to seeing you!

Date & Time: Saturday, November 7, 2009. 11:00 a.m. ~ 2:00 p.m.

Location: Graduate School of Engineering, Suita Campus

This event is intended for: 1st ~ 3rd year high school students (10th ~ 12th graders)

Attendance fee: There is NO fee for attending this event (no charge for lunch, either!)

How to apply: Please send your (1) name, (2) name of your school, (3) year in school (grade), (4) the name of the location you will meet us at (either Kita-Senri Station [Hankyu Railway] or Handai Byouin Mae [Osaka Monorail].

We are planning to take a tour of the Fukusaki Laboratory which is engaged in advanced life engineering research, particularly Metabolomics. Simply explained, metabolomics is an academic research field in which, for example, plants, animals, foods, can be analyzed with a variety of equipment and the information gained used for improving food processing processes, or assessing the toxicity of drugs, thereby being of assistance in real life to society.

We will have lunch in one of the student cafeterias. We can talk about things that are of interest to the students who attend, for example, the entrance exam, what students do on holidays -- in other words, get to know what being a Handai student is really like.
