Symposium: Foreign Language Instruction from here on out

2009-10-29 (Thu) 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

With the integration of Osaka University and Osaka University of Foreign Studies in 2007, Osaka University gained 25 foreign language departments with majors. This integration not only made it possible for members of the entire university to study a second foreign language, but it also effectively became the start of a new curriculum. One could also say that the introduction of CALL (computer assisted language learning) and ICT (information and communication technology) broadened methods for learning and instruction, making many things possible.

Currently, foreign language education at Osaka University enjoys an era in which the purpose, method, and target as well as the department or system are multi-layered and multi-dimensional. Taking this situation into consideration, this symposium will consider the challenges and possibilities facing foreign language education as a part of the joint FD activities of the Graduate School of Language and Culture, the School of Foreign Studies, the Cybermedia Center, the International Student Center, and the Research Institute for World Languages.
