Osaka University Extension, A Course for Working People Secure Network Seminar, 2009+

 

The ninth Secure Network Seminar will be held for the purpose of helping students obtain a deeper knowledge of information security technology.

Lecturers, mainly faculty of Osaka University, will give talks on knowledge and technology regarding computer network and network security in 9 classes over a 5-day period.

A day of practical lesson was added last year. A practical lesson will be held again this year. More practical curriculum consisting of lectures and a practical class to learn the protection of a system from attack in which you can experience the security weakness of a server will be conducted.

This seminar is recommended for individuals involving in network security-related work such as network management. Individuals who attend 8 or more classes of the 9 classes will be issued a completion certificate by Osaka University Extension.

Dates: October 15 (Thursday) - November 12 (Thursday) (9 classes in all for 5 days)

Time: 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. every Thursday (however, 1:00 - 6:30 p.m. on October 15)

Venue: Nakanoshima Center, Osaka University (The practical class will also be given at this center.)

Class 1: 1:00 - 2:55 p.m.

"Outline and basic knowledge of secure network" by SATOU Kazunori, representative director, Secure Ware

In this class, attendants learn the outline of information security system in the network environment, understand key words, and the necessity of comprehensive measures such as security management.

    • Class 2: 3:05 - 5:00 p.m.

    "Security incidents on the Internet and countermeasures" by UTASHIRO Kazumasa, representative director, Japan Computer Emergency Response Team Coordination Center (JPCERT/OC) and special member of Internet Initiative Japan Inc.

    In this class attendants will learn examples of security incidents and countermeasure to be taken.

    Class 3: 1:00 - 2:55 p.m.

    "Cryptographic technology and its safety" by ISHIHARA Yasunori, associate professor, Graduate School of Information Science and Technology

    In this class, attendants will learn the outline of cryptographic technology and the issue of deterioration of cipher strength.

    Class 4: 3:05 - 5:00 p.m.

    "Electronic identification and its use" by KASAMATSU Takayuki, associate partner, Sigmaxyz

    In this class, attendants learn the network authentication system such as electronic certificate, authentication, VPN, IPSec, S/MIME and SSL.

    • October 29 (Thursday)

    Class 5: 1:00 - 2:55 p.m.

    "The current situation of cyber crime and fighting with it" by a person in charge of countermeasures against high-tech crime, Community Safety General Affairs Division, Community Safety Department, HQs of Osaka Prefectural Police Department

    In this class attendants learn the current situation of cyber crime and countermeasures against it.

    Class 6: 3:05 - 5:00 p.m.

    "Protection technology of network and information system" by UEHARA Tetsutaro, associate professor, Academic Center for Computing and Media Studies, Kyoto University

    In this class, attendants learn network security measures such as VLAN, quarantine network, anti-virus measures, and IDS.

    • November 5 (Thursday)

    Class 7: 1:00 - 5:00 p.m.

    "Practical class of protection of systems from cyber attack" associate professor, Information Technology, Nara National College of Technology

    In this class, attendants will experience the weakness of server security and the necessity of countermeasures and concrete methods.

    • November 12 (Thursday)

    Class 8: 1:00 - 2:55 p.m. 

    "Information security-related laws"  by MATSUDA Yoshinori, professor at the Faculty of Modern Management Information, Osaka Seikei University and specially appointed professor at Graduate School for Creative Cities, Osaka City University

    In this class, attendants learn the outline and the role of major laws and guidelines regarding information security.

    Class 9: 3:05 - 5:00 p.m.

    "Information security management"  by SUGIURA Masashi, senior researcher, Information Security Analysis Laboratory, Security Center, Information-Technology Promotion Agency

    In this class, attendants learn the outline of internal control, international standards of information security management, authorization, and security policy.
