Global COE symposium -- "Planning Future Engineering based on Cognitive Understanding of the Human Brain"

2009-8-24 (Mon) 1:00 p.m. - 5:20 p.m.

In the pursuit of convenience, the technological pace of mechanization and information availability proceeds at a pace that threatens to overload the human brain. As such, all of us--children, adults, and senior citizens--are placed in danger of losing the qualities that make us human.

In order to lead modern society in a more healthy direction, it is imperative that society develop a bioinstrumental information system based on an understanding of the cognitive functioning of the human brain. At this point in time, based on their world-class brain research with brain-machine interface, the Graduate School of Medicine in conjunction with the Advanced Telecommunications Institute International (ATR) aim to create a human-friendly bioinstrumental information system. They aim to do so by integrating the largest scale of cognitive psychology research in Japan on high-level functions of the brain conducted at the Graduate School of Human Sciences with the human-oriented robot research being conducted by the Graduate Schools of Engineering and Engineering Science and ATR.

As you can see in the program below, a symposium is being held in conjunction with the start-up of the above. In addition to lectures by well-known researchers from Osaka University and ATR, the brain science scholar MOTOGI Kenichiro will give a lecture. Please plan on attending what promises to be a well-attended enlightening and enjoyable symposium.
