He will talk about what role the world now expects of Japan and its people.
All persons connected with OU as well as members of the general public are cordially invited to attend. |
Lecturer: Yasushi AKASHI, Director, International House of Japan; former UN Undersecretary General
Lecture title: "What are persons who can be active on an international stage?"
While other countries in Asia are full of energy, Japan is losing young people who hope to study abroad and try their strength there. Japan's economy and politics seem to be isolated from the world and people be satisfied with current convenient and comfortable life. On the other hand, the world faces mountainous pile of problems such as ethnic conflicts, poverty, and global warming. What is needed for breaking down such a status quo is persons' independence, willingness, and insatiable curiosity about different cultures, and yet Japanese perfectionism prevents improvement in foreign language proficiency.
