Handai-Asahi Nakanoshima Juku is Seeking Participants for the January courses

The Handai-Asahi Nakanoshima Juku are courses jointly produced and sponsored by Osaka University and Asahi Culture Center. The Handai-Asahi Nakanoshima Juku was established at the time when Osaka University Nakanoshima Center was built in Nakanoshima in 2004. These courses share results of research conducted at Osaka University with the general public in an easy-to-understand manner.

Applications for the January courses are now being accepted. (The total list of courses continues through March 2011.)

Reading Wooden Tablets of the Asuka Period

  • Wednesday, January 19, 3:30 - 5:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday, January 26, 3:30 - 5:00 p.m.

Lecturer: ICHI Hiroki, Associate professor, Graduate School of Letters, Osaka University

Associate Professor Ichi was involved in organization of wooden tablets excavated from the Asukaike and the Ishigami ruins in Asuka, Nara. He will discuss the tablets and how they clarify the real picture of ancient nation.


Messages from Meteors -- Diamond and Presolar Grains

Lecturer: MATSUDA Jun-ichi, Professor, Graduate School of Science, Osaka University

Research about meteorites often helps us understand the whole Solar System. Professor Matsuda will explain about the situation before our Solar System was formed and the latest research in an easy-to-understand manner.


Tuition fee: ¥3,150 per course. Each course consists of two classes.
