The Latest Physics for Senior High School Students--Saturday Afternoon Physics 2009

An event called "The Latest Physics for Senior High School Students: Saturday Afternoon Physics 2009 -- 'from the universe to the microscopic'" will be held again this year! If you're a high school student, you'll be sure to want to attend!

This event will feature lectures about the latest physics by leading researchers, various experiments and exhibitions, physics clarifying the mysteries of nature. Also, how scientific knowledge and technology are used in modern society will be explained in an easy to understand way.

This event will be held on Saturdays over six weeks, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m.

Saturday Afternoon Physics is sure to be an event you won't want to miss. We look forward to seeing many individuals filled with curiosity about the world we live in!

 

"The Latest Physics for Senior High School Students: Saturday Afternoon Physics 2009 -- 'from the universe to the microscopic'"

 

Dates: Every Saturday, Oct. 24 - Nov. 28, 2009, 3:00 - 6:00 p.m.
Venue: Large Conference Room, School of Science, Toyonaka Campus
Sponsor: Yukawa Memorial, The Museum of Osaka University
In cooperation with: Graduate Schools of Science, Engineering, and Engineering Science, Osaka University and Institute for Higher Education Research and Practice, Institute for Higher Education Research and Practice, and Research Center for Nuclear Physics

Intended for: 200 students in first through third grades of senior high school. (Teachers and staff of senior high schools and students' parents are also welcome as observers.)

Each lesson is 3 hours long and consists of the following three divisions.

(1) Basic lecture: Visiting various "worlds" in nature
(2) Coffee break: exhibition, exchange, and question and answer session
(3) Practical lecture: physics in high technology, games, and quiz 

One of the 6 lessons will be a visit to an advanced research facility such as the Research Center for Nuclear Physics or the School of Engineering facilities.

Themes of the basic lessons are:

  • Invitation to visit the world of nature
  • Journey to a quantum world
  • Journey to a molecular world  
  • Journey to an atomic nucleus and elementary particles
  • Journey to the universe

 

There is no fee for attending.
