Credit terminology

What’s a credit, anyway?

The Standards for the Establishment of Universities require 45 hours student learning per credit. The number of learning hours per credit includes not only class time (which ranges from 15 to 30 hours for a lecture or seminar class), but also time spent preparing for class and reviewing afterwards.

Credit caps are attracting attention.

The CAP system places a limit on the number of credits for which students can register each year (or each semester) to prevent imbalances in each year’s course load. Universities increasingly are imposing such CAP in order to encourage student learning outside of class for homeworks.
