2007.06.28 7th Annual Osaka University Forum
Info

Osaka University Forum is held every year to spread their excellent research overseas with well-chosen themes. The 7th annual event will take place this year from the 28th of June to the 30th in Groningen city of the Netherlands. With the support of Osaka University Groningen Centre for Education and Research, Osaka University will co-host with the University of Groningen this year's forum under the theme of "Frontiers of Economics and Its Applications."
The University, Private Sector and Government will each hold lectures on economics coming from their differing perspectives. The goal is also to improve, even more, the research activity. This will be done through Osaka University and the University of Groningen exchanging and sharing the results of their economic research. There is also hope that this opportunity will help both Universities move towards establishing a cooperative research system.

For those who are interested in participating, find application information on the homepage of Osaka University Groningen Centre for Education and Research

Report
The first two days of the Forum featured the keynote lectures, in addition to sessions concerning Japan-Netherlands economic theory, economics of sustainability, behavioral economics, macroeconomics, and microeconomics, together with lively exchange between the Forum participants. The third day was open to the general public, and welcomed three additional lectures given by Mr. Kyoji Komachi, Japanese Ambassador at the Netherlands, Mr. Takenori Inoki, Professor of International Research Center for Japanese Studies and Mr. Lex Hoogduin, Global Chief Economist, Robeco. The lectures addressed a wide range of topics, such as the future of Japanese policy in consideration of the 400-year history of Japan-Netherlands relations, the development of human resources in Japanese Society, and the conditions of world economics.
Additionally, the Forum saw the renewal of the agreement of academic exchange between Osaka University and Groningen University, and served as an opportunity for both universities to reflect on the future of exchanges between the institutions.
The Forum welcomed 84 participants, many of whom were related to university education and research affairs, and provided a valuable occasion during which Osaka University -including 21st Century COE- and Groningen University could share the achievements of their economic research, thus further heightening the level of future research activities and the ability to communicate information concerning these activities. The Forum showed that the universities have taken the first step towards establishing a joint research system.
