List of services we provide
Main Services
Below we listed only the main services provided by the Disability Resource Center. Please contact us for any services not listed here. Also, our services are not limited to students with physical disabilities, so if you have a mental disability or a development disability, please feel free to consult us about any problems you have or any services you feel you need.
General services for all students with disabilities.
(1) Adjustment of term-end exams
If needed, we can make necessary adjustments to extend the examination time. We also can arrange a special examination room for the disabled student if he/she needs to take the test alone.
(2) Notification of teachers on matters needing consideration
If there is anything the teacher should know about you or adjust during the class, we can contact him/her and arrange the matters beforehand.
Services for students with visual impairments
(1) Transcribing teaching materials into Braille, magnification, and transliteration of teaching materials
We can transcribe textbooks, handouts and examination questions into Braille, magnify them and transliterate them when needed. This applies to the regular classes at university, as well as to seminars, training practices, special lectures, factory tours, fieldwork, field survey training, training camps etc. which are carried out under guidance and supervision of the teacher in charge of the class. We are also able to procure electronic files of handouts distributed during the classes.
(2) Writing for students with disabilities.
We can fill in necessary documents for you.
(3) Reading
We can read books and materials related to class for you.
(4) Help with getting around
We can help you move from one class to another as well as around the campus.
(5) Supportive equipment
We have various supportive equipment, such as Braille displays and computers with screen reader software installed. Please contact us for the full list of support equipment available.
Services for Deaf/deaf and hard-of-hearing students
(1) Dispatch of interpreters
For classes of the regular curriculum we can offer a sign language interpreter or a person, who will take notes during class and convert all the conversation that happens during it into text.
(2) Insertion of subtitles into video materials
For classes of the regular curriculum we can supply video materials with subtitles.
(3) Supportive equipment
We have various supportive equipment, such as FM pace system and other supportive equipment. Please contact us for the full list of supportive equipment available.
Services for students with physical impairments
(1) Classroom Accommodations
We can change the classroom so it is accessible for students with wheelchairs and provide desks which can be used directly from wheelchair.
(2) Supportive equipment
If needed you can use electric and non-electric wheelchairs and other equipment provided by the university. In some classrooms desks and chairs are fixed to the floor. If the class is held in such a classroom, we can provide you with a desk that can be used directly from wheelchair. Please contact us for the full list of supportive equipment available.
(3) Help with getting around.
We can help you move from one class to another as well as around the campus.
