Carry-over of Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research

Definition of "Carry-over of Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research"

In cases where an original research plan is changed or the duration of the research is extended into the following academic year due to circumstances beyond one's control, grants can be carried over to the following year after making application for an extension to and obtaining the approval of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology for that extension.

Beginning in this academic year, the application procedures for a grant carry-over have been simplified in order to increase the suitability and efficiency of grant usage. Therefore, researchers hoping to obtain the carry-over of a grant are requested to make application for such as soon as possible.

Applications are being accepted. Please direct questions to the head of the division handling Grants-in-Aid matters at your school.

Subsidies

Procedures for carrying over subsidies are not necessary. Specifications on the use of research expenses should be reported every academic year. If you complete procedures for extending the period of a subsidized project in the last year of your project, you can extend the period of the project for a year for whatever reason.
