The Restoration of Nakayama Pond

Osaka Prefecture took the initiative to strengthen the banks of the Nakayama Pond in 2009 and the restoration and beautification of the area surrounding the pond was begun in 2010. This restoration and beautification of these areas is based on the Osaka University Campus Master Plan.

This overall beautification project is being done in order to strengthen the mutual relationship between the university and the local community, creating a "community campus." As a model project, this beautification enhances the border between the university and the local community, a locale of natural beauty shared by both. Through this project, Nakayama Pond and the surrounding area will become a convenient and pleasant water park for pedestrians.

After this restoration is complete, along with an improved promenade and a raised walkway, a walking trail surrounding Nakayam Pond will be constructed, forming, in the words of the Master Plan, a "Symbolic Space on the Toyonaka Campus."
